Research help needed: What motivates you?

I write a weekly article over at my blog, The Art of Accidental Success. This coming week I'm going to be sharing some thoughts on motivation.

As part of that, I'd love to have your thoughts. What motivates you?

And I'm talking about intrinsic, personality based motivation as opposed to, say, your faith which may shape the focus of what you're motivated to do. People with the same faith can be motivated in very different ways and so it is the motivation for those 'different ways' that I'm interested in.

Do people motivate you? Money? The thrill of achieving a goal? Getting recognised for something? Seeing something change or develop? The list is endless really...they're just a few pointers.

So yeah, fire away...what is it uniquely about you that is motivating? What is it that gets you out of bed in the morning to do something meaningful with your life and/or move towards accomplishing some life goals or ambitions?

When the future clashes with the past

I have an iPad. I get my daily newspaper on my iPad. I love doing it
this way. I love my technology. And it beats walking to the paper shop
every morning as we used to have to do.

But...

We're on holiday this week. We're in the Lake District. Having
electricity up here is really a bonus, so you can imagine the odds of
getting mobile broadband anywhere. Yep, none.

We're staying in a lodge though that's a few minutes walk from the
reception area of the timeshare that - whoop, whoop - has WiFi.

What this means if course is that, in order to get the newspaper on my
iPad I'm going to have to walk each morning to the reception, download
the newspaper, and that head back to read it.

There's something not quite right about that!

Global friendships

I am so grateful for the amazing array of friends we have from
literally all around the world.

The friendships we have and maintain today wouldn't have even been
possible 15 years ago.

I love this world and period of time that we get to live in!

Six Years Of Marriage

Today is our sixth wedding anniversary. How time flies.

I am so grateful for the gift of marriage in general and the gift of Rachel in particular. I feel lucky and blessed beyond measure.

When your wedding anniversary comes round, it's easy to pretend that everything about marriage is all rosy, rosy. And, to be honest, mostly for us I'm glad to say it is!

Life isn't always straight forward though and it inevitibly throws challenges at us. But that is where I am particuarly grateful. I couldn't have a better partner with whom I would want to go through both the highs AND the lows.

No matter what we go through - good or bad - we end up getting drawn closer to each other.

I love that our life together (and now including Eloise) is an adventure. We both want our lives to be about something bigger than just us and are both passionate about doing our small part in attempting to serve humanity and make the world a better place.

I've found my partner in crime...and I wouldn't change her for anything!
